Fun Moments

My bff from Florida came to stay with us all last week. It was fantastic- I cooked a lot of great meals, we watched a lot of reality TV, played with Brayden, and just had a nice time relaxing.

We also started making a list of the absolute worst American Idol Audition Songs EVER- in our opinion. Here is what we came up with:

1. Party in the USA- Miley Cyrus. I saw this a lot the last 2 weeks on the audition shows and it really isn’t something you can showcase well. I don’t even think Miley does it that well, personally.

2. Bulletproof- La Roux. We heard this song in the car, and decided that it also should never be used as an audition piece.

3. Any song that is more talking than actual singing.

4. Ballads, specifically by Whitney Houston, Jennifer Hudson, or Christina Aguilera. They are famous for a reason. No need to recreate.

5. Bad Romance- Lady Gaga. This is a hard song to sing. I am sure Lady Gaga gets tired of it. No need to hear it on Idol.

6. For The Longest Time: Billy Joel. You have to have just the right tone for this song. Not too high, not too low. Yowsers.

7. The Lion Sleeps Tonight- the Lion King. Furthermore, MOST music from ANY musical or DISNEY film should not be used as an audition piece.

Anything you would add to this list?

My favorite music- right now

I can’t stop listening to the Glee version of Forget You with Gywneth Paltrow. LOVE her.

I also can’t stop singing:

The Glee Christmas Album
Rihanna feat. Drake- What’s my name?
Katy Perry- Firework
Taylor Swift’s entire new album, Speak Now
Sugarland’s new album, The Incredible Machine

What is on your list of favorites right now?

Never Grow Up

My sister has the new Taylor Swift CD and insisted that I listened to this song. 30 seconds into it? I was bawling and made her shut it off. Here are the lyrics…it is beautiful. I highly recommend it.

Your little hands wrapped around my finger

And, it’s so quiet in the world tonight

You’re little eyelids flutter cause you’re dreaming

So, I took you in

Turn on your favorite night light

To you, everything’s funny

You got nothing to regret

I’d give all I had, honey

If you could stay like that

Oh, darling don’t you ever grow up

Don’t you ever grow up

Just stay this little

Oh, darling don’t you ever grow up

Don’t you ever grow up

It can stay this simple

I won’t let nobody hurt you, won’t let no one break your heart

And no one will desert you

Just try to never grow up, and never grow up

Your in the car on the way to the movies

And, you’re mortified

Your mom’s dropping you off

At, fourteen there’s just so much you can’t do

And you can’t wait to move out someday and call your own shots

But, don’t make her drop you off around the block

Remember that she’s getting older too

And don’t lose the way that you dance around in your PJ’s getting ready for school

Oh, darling don’t you ever grow up

Don’t you ever grow up

Just stay this little

Oh, darling don’t you ever grow up

Don’t you ever grow up

It can stay this simple

And no one’s ever burned you

Nothing’s ever left you scarred

And even though you want to

Just try to never grow up

Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room

Memorize what it sounded like when your dad get’s home

Remember the footsteps, remember the words said

And all you’re little brothers favorite songs

I just realized everything I had is someday gonna be gone

So, here I am in my new apartment

In a big city, they just dropped me off

It’s so much colder than I thought it would be

So, I tucked myself in and turned my night light on

Wish I’d never grown up

I wish I’d never grown up

Oh, I don’t wanna grow up

Wish I’d never grown up

Could still be little

Oh, I don’t wanna grow up

Wish I’d never grown up

It could still be simple

Oh, darling don’t you ever grow up

Don’t you ever grow up

Just stay this little

Oh, darling don’t you ever grow up

Don’t you ever grow up

It can stay this simple

I won’t let nobody hurt you

Won’t let no one break your heart

And even you want to

Please, try to never grow up

Happy Days Are Here Again

You all know I am a HUGE fan of Glee, and last night’s episode had me in tears at the end.

After this weekend, I realized I needed to put things into perspective. It’s a work in progress. I’m living life day to day, finding the joy and the love in spite of the bad, and really loving every single precious minute. This song fit perfectly.

(And for those of you that watched it on TV, yes this view is flip flopped for some reason- but it’s the music that counts.)

cant stop watching or singing

The Glee finale was a few weeks (maybe over a month?) ago, but I can’t stop watching or singing along to the Journey Medley.

smile

This song has been getting me through these tough days with Brayden, these tough days after an unexpected death in the family, these days where all I can do is smile.

S.W.A.G.

As Michael Scott would define it, “Stuff we all get.” (That episode totally cracked me up, where he said his condo was decorated in stuff he got from business convention swag. Hilarious!) I have been to several conventions for my dad’s business and we always came home with loads of pens, tote bags, note pads, magnets, and tshirts. But what he received yesterday takes the cake for sure!

Brandon and my dad were asked to speak at a convention in January, and the company that asked them to go sent them each new green 8gb iPod nanos! We bought one for my mom for Christmas and I have been eyeing it ever since, especially since I don’t have my iPhone anymore. The catch? Brandon already has an iPod nano- an older one, but he BARELY EVER uses it! SO…he gave me the new one. It has a radio, pedometer, and plays music out loud without the ear phones, so I can have it while I make dinner, work in the office, etc. I am so excited- can’t beat free!

don’t bring around a cloud to rain on my parade

Good news: Harvest is officially over! They finished around 6pm last night. What a huge sigh of relief.

So, now that I am in SUCH a great mood…I would like to share a video with you. It’s no secret that I am obsessed with Glee (seriously, fall finale and now nothing until April? ahh!) and this week, Rachel (Lea Michele) sang “Don’t Rain on my Parade” and I have ALWAYS loved this song. Her rendition is incredible, and leaves me feeling like a Broadway diva as I belt it out along with her. I found a video on YouTube of her singing it on Glee, with footage of Idina Menzel (love love love) singing it as well.

These two definitely share an uncanny resemblance, and it is said that Idina may guest star in Glee as Rachel’s mom. OOOOOHHHHHH I am so excited you have no idea!

mama’s song

I have been a HUGE Carrie Underwood fan since her days on American Idol, so naturally, I rushed to WalMart yesterday to buy her new album, “Play On”. One song in particular made me almost teary-eyed! Then when I looked it up on YouTube, this interview about it was on there, and she talked about a side of the song that I never even thought of. The song is called “Mama’s song”. Take a listen, you won’t be sorry!

Glee: Single Ladies

Check this out from Wednesday’s nights episode of Glee. In love with this show!
