Kenley- 7 Months

Another month has passed us by!

It just doesn’t seem right! This month, Kenley has almost mastered sitting up without any assistance. That photo was taken rather quickly before she toppled over! If I put the boppy pillow behind her, she can sit unattended for a few minutes, and she LOVES that. She also likes to sit in the high chair with some toys in the morning while I clean up in the kitchen and make breakfast.

She still only has the two teeth, and there are no signs of any others- so that’s good for me! :) Teething is such a bear.

She can roll from tummy to back quite easily, but still hasn’t mastered going from back to tummy. She is getting close, so I imagine that will be something she can do well by this time next month! As far as being mobile, she goes in a circle when she is on her tummy so get to things- not going forwards or backwards just yet. That’s fine by me!

Kenley nurses (sort of) when she wakes up, about 30-45 minutes later has cereal/fruit, naps, wakes up, has cereal/veggie, plays for awhile, naps, plays some more, more cereal, then around 8pm nurses (sort of) before bed. It’s kind of touch and go these days, and it’s pretty clear that she is about done. When she actually nurses, it’s only for a couple of minutes. She just can’t decide what to do! She’s generally in bed by 9pm and sleeps until around 6:30am.

Kenley is still in size 3 diapers, but I fear by next month we may have to go up a size again already. Girlfriend is chunking out! I love her little leg rolls, and now that it has been warm enough, I can’t get enough of her in rompers. SO cute. She is still fitting into some 3-6 month stuff, wearing 9 month pajamas, and has a 0-3 month pair of jeans that she just wore the other day. Seriously? All over the place. She’s still a peanut compared to her brother at this age. Brayden had almost 3 pounds and 1 1/2 inches on her when he was 7 months old. We don’t call him the moose for nothing!

Kenley Ann, this is such a FUN stage. You are learning, growing, and are such a content, happy baby. We love you so much!

Bittersweet Endings

This week has been kind of tough. On Tuesday, Kenley went 12 hours during the day without nursing. 12 hours. That’s a LONG time. Granted, she was eating baby food and cereal mixed with formula like she would never get another meal.. so it’s a good thing. Right?

I am trying to convince myself of that. I was in quite a bit of pain because of it, and I can tell my supply is diminishing.

I am ready to be done, and if she is doing it herself, then I really see no point in prolonging the inevitable. But it just went SO fast this time. I sort of miss nursing already. (I never thought I would actually say that.) It was pretty much the only time I got to just sit down and spend some one on one time with Kenley. It’s relaxing. It helped get some of my baby weight off. It’s a bond that is just so intense and unbelievable.

And in a flash, she’s growing up.

I am trying really hard not to be sad about it, and for the most part, I am happy. With several weddings we are attending this summer, plus my sister’s wedding festivities, it’s for the better. I did my part for as long as I needed to for her… it’s time to move on.

It’s bittersweet.

Photo Overload

It’s been awhile since I pulled some photos off of my phone to share!

Brayden (left) and Kenley (right) each at 6 months old. Hello silly clone children! It still amazes me how similar they look.

SO funny. We got such a laugh out of her wearing these sunglasses.

Sweet peanut. She is such a happy babe.

Tractor tipping! And YAY, finally a photo of Brayden!

Two bottom teeth!

Cereal Eating Machine

This girl? Loves her some rice cereal.

She is a huge fan of cereal mixed with green beans, peas, squash, bananas, apples, peaches, or sweet potatoes. And when it is all gone and you move away from her to wash out the bowl? Panic.

Also, she thinks she can run the spoon. But then she gags herself, gets mad, gives it back, and tries again. It’s a vicious cycle, I tell you.

With the introduction and absolute love for cereal, she has really diminished her feedings. She nurses first thing in the morning, around 1-2pm, and then around bedtime. I offer other times, but she is just NOT interested. I tried to give her a little formula in a sippy cup (because I don’t actually own bottles) and she wasn’t impressed. We’ll keep trying and see how long it takes. I would like to have her weaned by the end of the month, but we’ll just see. I certainly don’t think she is in any danger of blowing away!

Kenley- 6 Months

Kenley Ann is 6 months old! It feels like it has gone fast, but it also seems that the memory I have of introducing her to Brayden was lifetimes ago. Weird?

Also, it is getting much harder to photograph this busy little bee! Add cutting a tooth and just feeling miserable, she wasn’t up for our photo shoot.

Sister LOVES her cereal and solids. So far, she has tried apples, pears, peaches, green beans, peas, squash, sweet potatoes, and bananas. She loves them! She tends to get upset when it is all gone, which is actually kind of funny.

She likes to be on her tummy, and can roll from tummy to back. She hasn’t quite figured out how to go the other way just yet, but I am sure it won’t be long. She notices big brother’s toys and tries REALLY hard to get to them. When she IS mobile, I am going to be in trouble! She loves to chew on anything she can get- her toys, paci, Brayden’s big plastic trucks (the Little People ones with no little parts), rattles, or your fingers. When she lays on her tummy, she can turn in a circle but isn’t actually going forward yet, thank goodness! She is thisclose to being able to sit completely on her own. She does well for a few seconds, then ends up toppling over.

Oh, those eyelashes. Love them.

Her personality is starting to show a little bit as well. She is very, very laid back. I really only hear a peep out of her when she is hungry, tired, or not feeling well. She just goes with the flow and I am so thankful for that. It is nice to be able to take her along to Kindermusik but give her a toy in her car seat so that I can have that one on one time with Brayden. She does the same at speech therapy- just along for the ride! I suspect it will not always be this easy but for now, it’s working!

She had her first taste of formula yesterday, and wasn’t totally sold. I think maybe the sippy cup is too fast of a flow, so I might buy a bottle just to see if that is her issue. Plus, I know it will take a few days. I mixed her cereal with the formula last night and it didn’t bother her, so we will just keep trying. I am still producing enough for her, but she is just not interested whatsoever- so we are just starting that weaning process. Sad, but I am doing what I think is best for her. :)

She has her first tooth! I noticed it Sunday- it had already poked through- and I was shocked! Brayden was miserable teething, and she didn’t act any different. Until Monday. Now I think the other one is right there and hurting her poor little mouth. She has wanted lots of extra snuggles this week. I am happy to oblige but Brayden doesn’t get what the big deal is. He just wants to GO GO GO and DO ALL THINGS and I just want to cuddle Kenley.

She is going to bed around 9-9:30 at night and sleeping until 7:30-8am. It is wonderful! If I could just get her to bed a little earlier, that would probably be good. Brayden doesn’t go until 8:30, and Brandon has been working later, so I tend to let him stay up to see Brandon. That means that K doesn’t go down until later and while I think she is totally fine with that, I also think she could stand to get to bed a little earlier. We’ll see. I know I could use some more down time at the end of the day!

My friend Laura is doing her 6 month photos this weekend, so sometime next week I will have more to share!

Kenley: 5 Months

Kenley is 5 months old! Her personality is really starting to shine and she is just such a content and happy baby. It’s hard to believe that a year ago, I was just 8 weeks along with her. My how our lives have changed!

New this month: We introduced rice cereal one week ago, and so far it’s going well. She usually gets in a couple spoonfuls before she decides she is over it. I am still mixing it pretty thin, but she is getting better about figuring out how to swallow it. She likes to try to swipe at the spoon, and I am pretty sure she gets more all over her face than she does in her tummy.

As far as sleeping habits go, Kenley has been a rock star in the last couple of weeks. She has evened out and goes from 9:30-7am consistently, and I am loving it! Her routine is becoming much more predictable, which is pretty awesome. It gives me the freedom to plan to do things one on one with Brayden during the day, and I think he benefits from it as well.

Sister has also found her feet!

It’s cute, but sometimes she makes diaper changes a lot more difficult than they need to be! She is always trying to chew on her toes. It’s the cutest thing ever.

Kenley really likes to be on her tummy, and once in a while she will roll from tummy to back. Generally, she is too busy playing with whatever is in front of her to want to roll over and change things up.

She is *thisclose* to being able to sit up by herself with no help, but after a few seconds, she gets pretty lopsided! As much as I hate that she is getting so big, I secretly want her to be sitting for her 6 month portraits next month. But we’ll see.  (She is being supported with the boppy in the above photo)

She is about to grow out of Carter’s 6 month sleepers but wears 3-6 month of 6 month in everything else. I boxed up most of the 3 month clothes, and the very few that are left I am trying to get one or two more wears out of before they get boxed up.

Kenley Ann, you are such a joy. I love watching you grow and develop, and we love to celebrate every little milestone with you!

Another First

Over the weekend, I went ahead and decided to get Kenley started on rice cereal. I can’t believe it’s time for that- and that I started her almost a month later than I did Brayden!

She actually did pretty well. There were a few funny faces and some swipes at the spoon, but overall, I think she liked it! I am going to start out slow- once a day (maybe) for the first week and then gradually build up. You would think I would remember exactly what I did with Brayden, but sadly, I don’t.

I can’t believe this is another first- and it is already gone.

Photo Time!

We are all feeling much much better in this household (thank GOODNESS) because having the sickies is NOT fun. I am SO thankful to be feeling 100% today! Here are some photos from last week…

Sibling Love

Kenley Ann

Cute peanut

She always has those two fingers in her mouth. I swear she will suck them right off one of these days.

That last outfit on Kenley is a 3-6 month, and the sleeper above? 6 months. Make. It. Stop.

Impromptu Photo Shoot

I love when I can catch my kids being sweet, even if it is in the middle of our unmade bed.

And sometimes, I am just not quite fast enough to catch these sweet moments, but what I get is usually worth it regardless. Brayden just loves his sister.

Little sis loves laying on her activity mat, and has really taken a liking to grabbing her toys and trying to figure out just what they are. It’s fun to watch her try to see what she has in her hands. She also likes to lay on her tummy with her head up, just so she can see what’s going on. Today though, she was about ready for her nap, thus over tummy time. Sister knows what she wants, I will give her that.

Kenley: 4 Months

Kenley Ann turned 4 months old on Saturday! She is getting to be such a big, busy girl. She is a total sweetheart- we just love her.

She is definitely filling out- even from last month’s pictures!

She is almost 12 pounds, wearing a size 1 diaper (but not for much longer- I think I will be lucky if we make it through the box I just opened this past week!), and wearing 3-6/6 month sleepers. Most all of her 3 month clothes still fit as long as they don’t have feet on the ends.

While she hasn’t mastered rolling from her tummy to her back, she has done it a few times, usually with lots of giggles following. Oh yes, the giggles! The baby belly giggles that I love so much have just started recently, and I can’t get enough.

She has started to grasp for objects and be interested in them. New favorites are a plastic set of keys and a rattle with a teether on the end. She also is pretty interested in her paci these days, which is a nice relief for me.

Her schedule is more predictable but not foolproof. She sleeps generally from 10pm-6am (sometimes a little more or less) then naps about an hour or so after she eats. Sometimes these naps are 45 minutes, sometimes they are 2 hours. She cat naps a little in the afternoon and then is just up for the rest of the day. I just move her to whatever I am doing, and she seems to be pretty content! She is a happy girl most of the time.

Kenley Ann, you are a joy to us! Your smile is infectious and we love that your personality is starting to show. Your big brother adores you and I know you guys will be the best of friends as soon as you can keep up.

Love, Momma
