My little farmer

I took these photos of Brayden over the weekend. I ordered the second one on a canvas for the living room- it was just SO cute I couldn’t resist! These are now some of my most treasured photos of Brayden.  I definitely couldn’t have done them without Brandon’s help- we make a good team! And apparently, really cute kids, too!

Front Porch/Photo Studio Update

Here is the current state of this room:

As you can see, the insulation is in and I also have a new window! I can actually see outside from another direction! It is fantastic.

Next up? Drywall!

Possible Changes

My photography business was doing just fine until the cold, winter weather hit. I expected it, but didn’t realize how ill-prepared I was to do indoor shoots, even if I had any scheduled! We don’t have an extra room in our house to devote solely to a photography studio, since our spare bedroom will soon become Brayden’s big boy room. And short of building a shed out back, our options were pretty limited. That is, until Brandon suggested we turn the front porch into a studio.
Our front porch has been the most neglected room in the house. When we added the mud room on the back, we NEVER use the front door. NEVER. It doesn’t get great light either, because of how our house is sitting on our lot. But it IS a good sized room.

Yes, I still have one tree up. I am waiting for the *perfect* box to put it in.

The windows on the right used to be the regular front windows, but the previous owner added on the porch. So basically after the light goes through 2 sets of windows, it never really reaches the living room.

This is looking into our living room.

The door on the left goes into the living room. This wall is where I will put my *NEW* backdrop system!

And it has a lot of potential. After talking our options over, we decided to order these to start:

This backdrop setup from CowboyStudio. Comes with both the black and white muslin backdrops AND a case to put it all in when I don’t need it set up. You know, if people actually need to use the front porch.
And since the lighting pretty much sucks in that room as well….
Brandon ordered this lighting set for me- and I couldn’t be happier! Now, it’s just a matter of me learning how to use it. EEEKS!
I just know that if I want to take my photography to the next level, I need a few more basics- meaning lighting and backdrops. It will help a LOT, and I already have another shoot scheduled for later next week. I just really need to put some time into this, and it is my goal to get my camera out more and just take photos for the fun of it. I need to learn more about what I am capable of doing, how to post people, how to get the BEST shots.
In the next month I would like to replace the blinds in there to let in more light for daytime photos, and possibly the flooring/rug- just simple changes that will hopefully make a difference in the quality of my photos and the feel of my studio.
And I am excited. So here’s to some changes, and hopefully they pay off!

Randomness

  • I had some great experience behind my camera this weekend! Check out my photography website to see the photos. Personally, I feel like it’s my best work yet!
  • I am starting to sort things to pack for our big vacation. I can’t believe it is only 4 days away! We are getting so excited, and I am finding lots of fun things to do while we are there.
  • Brayden is cutting another bottom tooth (making the total up to 5 when it comes in!) and the poor boy has been miserable. We even had to cancel our plans for Saturday night because Brayden wanted nothing but momma’s snuggles. I just can’t justify leaving a baby boy behind who just wants his mom.
  • I bought Brayden a dresser over the weekend. It will eventually go in his big boy room, but he really needed one. I also found what I would replace the changing table with if and when another baby makes it’s way into our family. I wish I could find an old dresser and do an awesome makeover on it, but I am just not that crafty!
How was your weekend?

I won!

Katie at Sluiter Nation had a fantastic blog-o-versary giveaway last week and I WON! I won custom Thank You cards by TLCreations. I am so excited for the paisley printed thank you cards she designed for me. They are amazing.

AND, it just so happens that she does logo design, so I asked her to design a logo for my photography business. I LOVE how it turned out, especially since I was pretty much up for anything!

I want to be able to put this on the photos that I take before I publish them, but as Laura and I talked about briefly yesterday, it sounds like I would have to have PhotoShop Elements at least in order to do so. Any truth to that? I appreciate the help!

I finally published my website! I am so excited, hoping that the visual display of my work will land me some more clients. It needs a few tweaks here and there but overall, I love it, and I am really excited to add more to my portfolio online.

Check it out for yourself!

And…let me know what you think!

Here are a couple of the photos I took on Wednesday morning. These kids were too cute and I can’t wait to edit the rest to see what I come up with!

The beginning of JSancken Photography

So… I know some of you are really pumped to see my photography website, but it’s not ready. After talking with Sheana earlier, we decided that we want a LOT more content so that this site will last, not something that people will have to come back and check to see more of my work. And truth is, my only models have been Brayden and Sam.

I really want to dabble some more, get better, do some more freelance work, and practice before I debut my site as a business. I want it to have more variety, show my capabilities, and have some more time to find my own style.
SO….be patient, those of you who can’t wait! I promise to throw in plenty of sneak peeks of my work for you to critique! I am like a sponge right now- just excited to begin this journey, but knowing that it can’t happen overnight.
**Thanks to my bestie Sheana for all of her help, support, and technological smarts!

Here is a sneak peak of the photos I took at my first shoot last week! I will be debuting my website by the end of the week!
