our home office!

It’s not quite complete- we just got our power back on after a 5-6 hour outage….BUT here it is!

Brandon’s desk. Very similar to mine.

Here is mine with the hardware.

Brandon’s desk with stuff on it….

My desk with stuff on it..and the pile in the corner that needs to be put in the closet, but we are waiting on some shelving.

We are making progress! It’s not perfect yet, but soon!!

my desk and the nursery now

Here is my desk, before we put the hardware on it.

It has a black inlay that is slightly textured. I love how classy that small touch makes it look! We moved Brandon’s desk in last night and we are going to be moving furniture around and stuff out of the old room, so more pictures to come later.

And now, I give you the nursery….

What you see here is the 8 ft. table that we are currently using as a desk, the filing box we are using as a cabinet, 2 extra chairs for the dining room table, the elliptical, etc. I did not get a picture of the right side of this room, which contains 2 sets of plastic drawers with my college stuff in them, plus a bunch of other things that are WAY overdue for organization. The closet contains extra bedding, suitcases, Brandon’s college textbooks, and files that need to be put away. This is why I am getting antsy about the new office being done! This room, we affectionately call “the room where our lives never meshed”. It’s very true! BUT now with baby on the way and our renovations almost done for now, we can take the time we should have been taking to get this place in order and empty for our little one. We have a lot of work today- but plan on working in here for most of the day! I will be sure to take pictures of our progess!

the carpet is in!

I am so excited! Now all we need is the window trim and the closer door, and we should be able to start moving things into the new office.

Even Sadie likes the new carpet…

i am starting to loathe office furniture…

This is the debate that has been the most recent one in the S household lately. What are we going to do with the fabulous new office space that we have created? Certainly we are not bringing back the 8 foot folding table to stay…. so we found this at Furniture Row.

Now, I really don’t want all of the hutch space, and you can buy the pieces separately. So let me try to explain how we want to do this….

There are 2 workstations, one on the left, and one on the right (which you can’t see but its the same as the bottom left piece). Then, B and I would each have a computer workstation. Then, see the table with the computer on it? We would put that in between the two workstations as a shared workspace, so that we could each pull a chair up to it and face each other when going over bookwork. The only issue is that we don’t know how deep those workstations are- so we are going to have to go check it out. Oh bummer, I will have to go puruse a furniture store! We are about 90% sold on this look- and if we decide to add the hutches later, we have that option.

Decisions, decisions!

remembering past inspiration

Remember this picture that I found of a home office that I was drooling over?

Well, I am still drooling over it.

We decided NOT to make the desk space out of countertop though, and instead, Brandon will use his cherry wood desk (that is gorgeous) and I will get something that is cherry in finish as well. I think that the slate blue paint color that I am in love with will look great with that paint color. What do you think?

something fun

Since I am slightly nauseated over decision making for the new office, I decided that this post would be about some creative, interesting home office gadgets. Now, some of these I would never have the use for, but they sure are fun!

1. Digital photo frame. I received one of these for Christmas from my MIL, and I love it. It will save me the space of having all of my favorite pictures out on my desk.

3.

A Butt station. Holds post-its, pens, and a roll of tape.

I have been purusing organize.com for some really practical home office organization ideas. What is your favorite tip to keep your office organized?

the home office

I swear, this house may never be finished. Never.

This home office and all of the decisions that go along with it are starting to make me nauseous. Or maybe it’s just morning sickness. Either way. I wish it would just design and do itself.

I need something functional, organized, and clutter free. We are planning to do an L-shaped layout because the room is more rectangular, and I feel like this will give me the most space.

I LOVE the look of this office, but I know when push comes to shove, there is NO WAY I will be able to recreate this in my own home.

I wish I had just like a percent of the skill that whoever did the office has. OR the money to hire it done!

OK, rant over. I guess between trying to pick out the perfect furniture without breaking the budget and trying to decide on french doors to go between the living room and the new office, I am just stumped.

still searching for the right desk….

The gorgeous corner desk from Home Decorator’s was not well received by the hubby. Mostly because the desk alone was around $500 and that does not include the rolling filing cabinet OR the printer station! :( SO I checked out my next favorite store: IKEA. I found this beauty for $169.
I absolutely love this setup, and I am hoping Brandon agrees.

computer desks…decisions, decisions…

With the end in sight (I hope!) for our new addition, I have been scoping out some new computer desks this evening. For the time being, we are using an 8 foot table, just because we knew the renovation project was coming, and I wanted to save the money to get something really awesome for the new space. Here is what I have found so far…

This one is from Home Decorator’s. I love that it is a corner desk, and I love the filing space below on the right hand side. ALSO, we use our paper shredder all the time, so that feature is really nice.

I am not set on the corner desk option since we haven’t exactly pinned down the layout, so in case it doesn’t end up that way, I like this one:

I am a fan of this one due to the amount of drawer space. I love office supplies. It’s kind of sickening. I get so excited about buying pens, Post-its, new notebooks, binders, etc. This would store ALL of that, and then some.

We’ll see…I have a feeling that I will have more time than I think to decide!
