Just when you think you have them all figured out, they go and change things up on you.
Oh toddlers are such fickle creatures. (As are their 8 month old sister counterparts….) I am somewhat ashamed to admit that up until today, Brayden slept with a pacifier. Still. I know. I wanted to cut it out right around the time Kenley was due to arrive, but after talking with Brandon and my mom, we decided that it would be too much change too fast. Brilliantly, my mom told him one day that his paci was under his pillow and he went with it. When he would wake up, he would leave it under his pillow. I could deal with that.
Well, somehow he managed to stash AND remember that he had FOUR paci’s in this house. And he was going to bed with one in his mouth, and clutching the rest. UGH. So, we let it continue for awhile, waiting for the right time to take them.
Yesterday, I snagged one, cut it up, and threw it away.
Mom of the year, right?
This morning, he wanted them in our bed, and I told him that he needed to put them under his pillow or I was going to throw them in the trash. And you know what he did? HE THREW THEM AWAY BY HIMSELF. I texted Brandon right away and he was like maybe get one one out for emergencies? I was like nope- I am sticking this one out.
It took 4 tries, but he is napping without a paci. We talked about how he is a big boy going on the potty, and that paci’s are for babies. He still has a blankie which is fine by me, but oh he cried for his paci. I am sure tonight will not be fun. But he is ready I think. It’s time.
To distract him, we moved the toy box back into the living room, cleaned it out, and put all of his big boy toys (meaning the ones that Kenley can’t play with) in his room. He was pretty excited that sister won’t be as quick to get into his things!
And if he does well on the potty and without the paci? There might just be a special mommy/son date to celebrate!

Yay for B! Such a big boy!
That’s awesome! Good for him. Things to seem to change fairly fast. Although I can’t get Lauren to go on the potty at all. So frustrating!
